What it’s like to work with The Vondys

Recently, we’ve been hearing from couples that they don’t know what to look for in a wedding photographer, or any wedding vendor for that matter. Being that our passion is the help couples have the best wedding possible, even if they aren’t our couples, we thought we’d try and shed some light on this!

Obviously, with photography, it’s a little easier as the images you see, the emotion the images evoke and the editing style have to first resonate with you.

But what about what you can’t see?

It’s hard to know by looking at a photographers images to understand how they will treat you before, during and after your wedding day. Not having hired many photographers in your life, you probably aren’t quite sure what to expect or what to look for beyond pretty pictures.

We believe how you treat people matters.

We strive to be more than “just photographers”. We do everything in our power to ensure your wedding day is truly the most amazing, stress free day it can possibly be.

You deserve the best wedding day possible. You should have a team of vendors supporting you to ensure this happens for you!

To give you a better idea of what it’s really like to work with us, we’ve decided to share stories from behind the scenes over the years so you can get a glimpse of what it’s like to have The Vondy Experience.

On this “edition” of What it’s like to work with The Vondys, Mrs. Vondy is here to brag on my husband a little bit with a story of bravery and brilliance…

As I wandered from the back to the front of the church waiting for the ceremony to get started, I noticed the guests glancing around, restless. I mean, it was a little warm, but upon peeking at my watch, I realized I couldn’t blame them. It was a full half hour past ceremony start time.

After a few more moments, I decided to go see if I could figure out what was going on.

Upon locating the church coordinator, I asked what was causing the delay, and she said something that I had never heard before.

“The musicians haven’t arrived and we can’t get ahold of them. We don’t have music for mass.”

For those of you unfamiliar, this was a full Catholic ceremony. It’s an hour long where music traditionally plays an instrumental (pun intended) part of the mass.

Not wanting to volunteer my husband, I quickly went to fill him in on the situation. I was not surprised to find him entertaining the bride and her family in an attempt to ease their anxiety over the delayed ceremony. I quietly pulled him aside and told him what was going on.

Without hesitation he asked, “Does anyone have a guitar?”

By some miracle, the priest did! An acoustic Taylor, a brand my husband is very familiar with since he owns one himself. He said, “if it’s ok, I’ll play the ceremony.” For the record, he’s played guitar for over 20 years.

The relief in the room was palpable.

And that’s what my handsome, talented husband did.

Sure, it left me to photograph the entire ceremony solo, but with it being an hour long, there was plenty of time. Plus when I first started I used to photograph weddings solo all the time, so it wasn’t that big of a deal. Not as big of a deal as the musician’s no showing on a wedding day, for sure!

The priest shouted him out during the ceremony and the father of the groom started his reception speech by thanking, “Mr. Justin”.

Mr. Vondy still likes to joke about the whole experience being “the easiest hour of work” he’s ever had.

We aren’t telling you this for glory. Or to sound braggy (yuck). We aren’t saying that photographers who don’t step up like this aren’t great photographers who would still give you an amazing wedding day experience.

We ARE saying this to further prove our point that we believe in building a relationship with our couples so that should the unthinkable happen you can trust us to help and know we’re going to have your back.

While we do appreciate a hearty thank you and maybe a kind review, truly, we just want to ensure our couples to have the most amazing wedding day possible.

If that means grabbing a guitar to play your ceremony because your musicians didn’t show up, we want to be your vendor in shining armor.

We certainly hope when this couple looks back at their wedding photos they don’t think about what “went wrong”, the no-show musicians, instead, they relive all the amazing moments we captured for them instead.

Most importantly, this is not to say that if you have us as your photographer you do not need to hire a musician OR that we want to do or take over another vendor’s job. We much rather your day go perfectly and get to support you while getting to do what you’ve hired us for: document your wedding day. However, from the day you hire us, we will guide you from our past experiences to help ensure your day will go as smoothly as possible. With us by your side, you can have a little more peace of mind knowing that we will do what we can within our power to assist if something should not go to plan. This is The Vondy Experience.
