Our Favorite TV Shows | What We Watched in 2019

It’s (hopefully) no surprise that we love a good Netflix binge and movie dates are some of our favorite date nights. Aside from a good ole Target run, obviously.

Seeing as we love talking tv and movies so much, as you may already know, we started a series on Instagram called What We’re Watching Wednesday. We share what we’ve been watching and poll to see if you’ve seen it too. We also love to know what you ARE watching too, so we can check it out!

During this quarantine time, we figure you’re sitting at home trying to look away while watching Tiger King, so we thought we’d give you some of our favorites we watched last year!

Please note: These are shows WE watched in 2019, not all of these actually released in 2019 (although a lot did!)

Our Favorite shows we watched in 2019:

  • Peaky Blinders (S1-S5) on Netflix
GUYS! How did you not tell us about this show before?! Jk… you totally did and we finally listened. This is one we started a long time ago, couldn’t get into immediately and wrote it off. After hearing you tell us how amazing it is, we finally tried it again and have NO IDEA why we weren’t into it originally. This is an amaaaaazing show. The acting, the costumes, the sets, everything tells a story, which you know we are ALL about telling a story!

  • The Boys (S1) on Amazon
This show was crazy good! A new take on superheroes. Just what the world needs right now, get it? Anyway… we hear season 2 is due out pretty soon…

  • Umbrella Academy (S1) on Netflix
If you have been following us on IG for awhile, you know Mrs. Vondy was obsessed with this show. We heard a rumor that season 2 is due out soon…

  • Schitt’s Creek (S5) on Hulu & Netflix
We may have started this show last year actually when it arrived on Hulu/Netflix and we are officially obsessed! It’s hysterical. If you need a laugh at times like these, can’t recommend this show enough! It’s 6th and final season is airing right now on Pop TV.

  • Jack Ryan (S2) on Amazon
We know, we know. He’s just an analyst!! And just John Kransinski, who is surprisingly perfect for this role! We watched S1 last year in record time. I think we finished both seasons in <2 days. DON’T JUDGE US!

  • Chernobyl on HBO
This might have been the best show we watched all year. But be warned, it is HEAVY. It’s also terrifying in the fact that it actually happened but it’s SO worth watching. However, if you need something lighter to watch at times like these, maybe save this one for a bit later.

  • Mindhunter (S2) on Netflix
If you’re into the heavy stuff right now, here’s another one to continue your journey! If you’re like some who found season 1 a little slow, season 2 is anything but! It’s a roller coaster of emotions and the acting is incredible as always.

  • The Bodyguard (S1) on Netflix
GUYS! We went into this show having zero idea what to expect and it did NOT disappoint. It’s only a 6 episode commitment, and, I mean, if nothing else, Robb Stark is easy on the eyes, am I right?

  • Watchmen (S1) on HBO
This series is pretty dope. If you, like Mrs. Vondy, read the book and hated the movie, this show is just what you’ve been waiting for from the Watchmen universe. Get ready for some badass action, compelling storytelling and amazing acting.

  • What We Do In The Shadows (S1) on FX and Hulu
If you haven’t seen the movie version of this “mockumentary”, we highly recommend it first! This is a show about vampires who are roommates and the shenanigans they get into. It’s hilarious. Also, season 2 comes out this month… just sayin!

Honorable mentions:

  • Miracle Workers (S1) on TBS

  • Big Mouth (S3) on Netflix

  • Good Omens (S1) on Amazon

  • Queer Eye (Japan) on Netflix

  • The Chef Show on Netflix

  • Stranger Things (S3) on Netflix

  • The Crown (S1 & S2)

  • Mandalorian (S1) on Disney+

Watched but snooze:

  • Game Of Thrones (S8) on HBO

  • I Am the Night on TNT?

mrs. vondy recommends…

Hey there, Mrs. Vondy here! Sometimes, I watch shows that Mr. Vondy isn’t interested in watching! I can’t tell you why, but these are some I watched this year that blew my mind.

  • Reprisal (S1) on Hulu
Cinematically, this has to be one of the most beautiful shows I’ve watched in a while. I actually backed up and rewatched several scenes more than once because they were so beautifully filmed. I never do that. The acting is amazing and the story is pretty intriguing. Let’s just say, when it was over, I was bummed not knowing if I was ever going to get a season 2. Go watch it, so I can get a season 2!

  • Lost in Space (S1 & S2) on Netflix
Season 2 just dropped this year, but I binged the entire first season (all 8 episodes) in ONE day you guys. I couldn’t. stop. watching. Season 2 is a little slow to get started, but after about the 4th episode it finds it’s groove and it’s still really good.

  • See on Apple TV
This show stars Khal Drogo (Jason Mamoa) so I was in from the minute I saw him. Aside from that eye candy, this is from Stephen Merchant who wrote/created Peaky Blinders so the story telling and characters are phenomenal! Plus if you’re like me and enjoy a good fight scene, this show has some of the best and most unique I’ve ever seen.

  • Godless on Netflix
Who doesn’t love Lady Mary from Downton Abbey? Although I couldn’t make it through all of Downton, when I saw Michelle Dockery was staring in this series alongside Jeff Daniels, AND a Western, I knew I’d love it. I wasn’t wrong.

Looking for movies??

While we did watch a LOT of movies last year, we didn’t love a lot of movies we saw last year. The best we saw were:

  • 1917

  • Knives Out
